Makarios III Amphitheatre, Nicosia
The Makarios III Amphitheatre, the oldest modern amphitheatre in Cyprus, has hosted some of the most important cultural events in Nicosia. Built in the 1950s on the grounds of the School for the Blind, it has since become, thanks to the dedication, perseverance and love for theatre of its first Director, Nicholas M. Ierides, the ideal venue for theatre performances, concerts and other cultural events. It has a seating capacity of 1,588 spectators, spaces for fifty wheelchair users and has basic lighting equipment and five spacious dressing rooms. Cyprus Theatre Organisation rents and manages the theatre.
